Molecular Biology

The main aim of the molecular biology section in the LINV laboratory is to understand the molecular mechanisms that lead to resistance against abiotic and biotic stresses as well as the study of plant to plant communication. In particular the research is focused on the investigation of gene expression under different stress conditions by Real time PCR. Different biochemical and proteomic approaches are available to study modulation of proteins in plants, their functions and interactions under stress conditions. Moreover LINV laboratory is equipped with standard methods to execute classical cloning strategies in order to create fusion proteins with different tags. In addition, there is the expertise to obtain transient- and stable-transformed plants.

Tecan Infinite 200 spectrophotometer
The Infinite 200 NanoQuant is an instrument for the accurate and reproducible nucleic acid measurements,
Tecan’s Quad4 Monochromators have a good sensitivity and offer true wavelength flexibility. It provides reliable absorbance readings from as little as 2 μl of sample, and can detect DNA
concentrations as low as 1 ng/μl.

Tissue-Lyser
In the LINV laboratory is present a Tissue-lyser II from Quiagen for high-throughput sample disruption for molecular analysis, in particular it simultaneously disrupts multiple biological samples through high-speed shaking in plastic tubes with stainless steel beads.

Ultracentrifuge
In the LINV laboratory is available an Ultracentrifuge Avanti J30I can be used for a variety of applications, including pelleting, purification of cellular components, and density gradient separations.

Real time PCR
LINV Laboratory is equipped with an Explera Rotor-Gene 6000:
The Rotor-Gene system uses a unique centrifugal rotary design, ideal for fast data acquisition and it is essential for advanced applications including quantification, HRM (high-resolution melt), end-point, association/disassociation (i.e. melting/annealing) kinetics, and nucleic acid concentration measurement.
